🥳 Introducing HIT101 - The First Course in a New Health IT Learning Track

It’s been a while since I’ve posted here, but I’m excited to return with something I’ve been working on for quite some time.

I’m excited to announce my first course: HIT101 – Healthcare System Fundamentals. It's available inside the Draegan Network and marks the start of a new, purpose-built learning track for health IT professionals.

Whether you’re working in clinical apps, technical support, reporting, project coordination, or somewhere in between, this course helps you understand how everything fits together. It’s designed for professionals across roles and levels who want to be more effective in their work—or prepare for what comes next.

🙁 Why It's Hard to Learn the Big Picture

If you’ve ever searched for structured, practical learning in health IT, you’ve probably noticed what I did: there isn’t much out there that bridges the gap between formal training and real-world work.

You could enroll in an academic program like a master’s degree, but those are expensive, time-consuming, and often out of reach for people already working full time. On the other end of the spectrum, there are one-off courses in computer science or informatics—but those tend to be narrowly focused and leave you to figure out how the pieces connect.

For many, the only real option has been to learn on the job. That kind of learning can build strong skills, but it often happens in isolation. You might understand your responsibilities but still feel unsure about how the work connects to broader healthcare goals or how different parts of the system influence one another.

🧱 About the Health IT Essentials Track

A new Health IT Essentials track is being created to change that.

It’s designed to give professionals a clearer understanding of how health IT supports care delivery, collaboration, and accountability. The goal is to help people work more effectively and grow into new opportunities when the time is right.

The content in this track draws from over 25 years of experience in both Canada and the U.S., across clinical, technical, and leadership roles. I’ve supported frontline teams, led implementation work, and advised on digital transformation. That blend of hands-on and strategic experience has shaped how these courses are designed—clear, focused, and grounded in real-world healthcare.

HIT101 is the first in a four-part foundation:

• HIT101 – Healthcare System Fundamentals (Available Now!)
  Understanding how healthcare systems are structured—and how health IT supports care delivery, coordination and accountability
• HIT102 – Intro to Health IT Infrastructure and Applications
• HIT103 – Clinical Basics & Terminology
• HIT104 – Foundations of Interoperability

Each course will build on the last. But for now, HIT101 is where the learning journey begins.
